    Default Deck Building/Living card games

I have seen a few deck building/living card games....

Its basically a card game without the collection and trading....Seems most of them stem from Dominion. I was wondering if the games are any good. I'm looking at resident evil comming out november the 10th i believe. Im looking for something fun with some skill not just luck, anyone have a game to recommend?

I was reading about the resident evil LCG. Supposedly it plays almost exactly like Thunderstone, if you have played that. The Cthulhu LCG fantasy flight makes is pretty fun. I read warhammer invasion is very good but I haven't played it.

Dominint really isnt a deck building game though.
So are you interested in non-collectible card games in general?

There are several non-collectible card games that are good.

    Red Dragon Inn
    Space Hulk: Death Angel
    Munchkin (Series)
Gamma World (Also uses card mechincs, but it is collectible)

Then there was one I played that was kinda like playing Civilization. Each card had crowns, towers, factories, etc... and different powers. Maybe someone else will know the name of it.

I think that Living Card Game could be a trademarked term for Fantasy Flight games. So other companies may be offering non-collectible card games without the LCG Logo.

sorry my bad i thought dominion was a deck building game because of a review on the Ascension card game that said When it comes to deck building games then you're got two mainstay choices: Dominion and Thunderstone. Both have the perks, both have their drawbacks. Ascension Chronicle of the Godslayer hopes to bring enough new things to the table that it'll be the next deck building card game of choice. I dont know what exactly im looking for, I have the Call of Cthulhu LCG and for the most part it seems who ever goes first wins....but i still like playing it

I have Star Munchkin too and its fun, Im just looking for something with alot of replay value, that you need some skill to play and has alot of options....with expansions or a butt ton of cards....

I would consider dominion a deck building game. You build your deck as you play, not beforehand though. Thunderstone falls into the same category and I'm guessing Ascension too though I haven't played that one

Bryan, I recommend Thunderstone. I think if you get Dominion then get Thunderstone you will just wonder why you bothered getting Dominion. Don't get me wrong, I love Dominion and it will always be my first thought when anyone says "Deck Building Game" I always described it as Perpetual Magic Drafting. But if you have to pick between them, I would pick Thunderstone because it adds a combat stage where your deck does battle while still building and modifying it. It makes for a lot more possibillities.
Death Angel the Space Hulk card game is really good and really cheap compared to most games. It can even be played solo.
And you should check out Gloom, it's not for everyone, I don't much like it personally, but it is a non-collectible card game that has some popularity people who like it usually love it.

Dominion is definitely a deck building game. It started the craze that is going on right now with publishing similar games. Most have been mentioned. Heroes of Graxia was not and I actually think it may be my favorite.

Dominion is, in my opinion, still the smoothest and best arranged of them all. However, the newer games give you other options.

My take on it is this. Find the one that matches the theme you like or that has the one particular mechanic you like, and go with it. There are even more slated to come out soon.

Death Angel, the Space Hulk card game, which has been mentioned a couple times, is definitely NOT a deck building game. It is really a cooperative shooter game, reminiscent of a simple miniatures game, but played with cards. It is a lot of fun, and I recommend it, but has very little in common with the rest of the games mentioned in this thread.

Here are two lists of deck building games. Much more comprehensive than those listed above. You do need to read both because one is a little older.

    http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklis...-game-geeklist

Of the ones that I know, I rank them this way
Dominion - 5 or 6 expansions - much more of an economic/buying type game - some decks have cards that interact with other players but it is not combative.
Ascension - attack monsters and buy each turn
Thunderstone - attack monsters or buy each turn, sometimes it bogs down
Heroes of Graxia - combat vs the other player, different than the other games
