CharCon 2011 Dates Confirmed...FINALLY!

First, let me apologize for just how long it has taken to get this information out to you guys. Trust me when I say to you that we have not been sitting on our hands on this. We have had some barriers that we had to work our way through and it simply took some time. With that said...

The 2011 CharCon dates will be October 21-23.

Mark your calendar now! Seriously!

One major change will be in effect for 2011 and that is a change of venue. For 2011, CharCon will be moving to the Charleston House hotel. The Charleston House is located in downtown Charleston just a few blocks from the Charleston Civic Center.

We are very optimistic about this change. Hosting CharCon in a hotel comes with some very interesting benefits, such as late night gaming, more flexibility, rooms nearby and much, much more. One obvious hurdle that we will be hard at work to deal with is space. The Charleston House has an ample amount of space and we will be putting just about every inch of it to use. However, we will not have the luxury of the over abundance of space we have had in past years at the Charleston Civic Center. We will just have to be more judicious in our use of space. No problems!

I will go ahead and answer the obvious question before it gets asked.

Why the change?

Well, quite simply we did not have a choice. The Charleston Civic Center booked another event on our dates for 2011. They have a national convention coming in early October and that caused other events to be pushed out. End result is that the Annual Book Fair is on the same weekend as CharCon 2011 and they will be using the space we normally use.

So, the only October dates we could have gone with were Halloween weekend, which we jointly decided was simply not a good option. At that point, we set to finding a new venue and we were lucky enough to find availability and a partner in the Charleston House.

Who knows, things may work so much better at the Charleston House, that we may have found a new permanent home! After the 2011 show we will evaluate things and decide on our venue going forward.

2010 was a banner year for CharCon!

Our official attendance ended up at an amazing 693 people! That represents a growth of just over 36% from the previous year! Wow! We also had an eye popping 17 vendors attend, which is great.

Part of that growth is owed to the addition of Hack3rcon as a partner in CharCon. The now annual 304 Geeks event has added a unique element to CharCon that brings in a different breed of geek with a high cross over opportunity between the various events offered by each part of the show. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with them.

We are all looking forward to making 2011 an even better year. Can't wait to see all of you in October!

I was wondering about the new look of the logo. Is there a reason for that? Like related to a possible theme for the con.

From the look of the logo if it does have anything to do with the theme, it looks like Western or Steampunk.....please be steampunk, please be steampunk! The wife and I are already planning costumes.
