Default CHARCON Promotion on Saturday May 19

A few of the CHARCON staff are going to set up some historical games outside of the Riflemen Store this coming Saturday in conjuction with the Armed Forces Day Parade at noon. We plan to start setting up about 10am.

We plan to set up a Pearl Harbor, D-Day and Gettysburg board. These are three very important moments in American history and fit well into the theme of the parade on Saturday.

This will be done to help promote miniature gaming (which is going to be a focus of CHARCON this year) and the convention itself.

We will be handing out CHARCON flyers as well.

if anyone wants to come by and help promote CHARCON feel free to come by.

Also, if you do and you have a CHARCON shirt please wear it to help make the CON more visible.

We will be there around 10am. The parade starts at noon. We will be there as long as there are people coming around looking at the tables and asking questions and we have flyers to hand out.

first congrats to Charlie for generating a new gamer token.... I mean baby

It went very well. We went early and ate at the restaurant next door to the shop. We went out to set up and the ladies at the restaurant offered us one of the covered tables and chairs to use which was very nice of them. Early on we had shade under the store but by the end of the parade the only shade we had was from the table umbrella they let us use.

A lot of people stopped by and looked, took pics and talked about the games. I had a lot of navy vets come by who had been to Pearl Habor one time or another in their career come by and talk about the board. I asked them questions about terrain features on the baord to make sure I had gotten them right and was very happy that I was right on the mark.

The thing about historical gaming, espcially those games that are recent history is you have to get it right because there are still people out there that were there. The Grand Marshall of the parade was stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii and came by after the parade and was pointing out features on the game board such as the Officers club where they used to sit and drink and watch the ships come in and out of the harbor. He told the the board was very accurate.

I am taking the game to Origins next week to run some games. I based the rules on a new book about Pearl habor. The author of the book is coming to speak at the War College and said he is going to come by my game to check it out. So that will be the next big test for the game. He is a former Navy Officer, game designer and currently works at the John Hopkins Applied Physics lab.

We had a lot of people come by and thank us for having the display out there. There were surprised to learn that these were actual games. Buck talked a lot about Flames of War and showed off some of the books.

The kids really liked the games and were very well behaved around all of the shiney toys

Wish I would have known about this before the date; I would have made an effort to stop by.

It's always nice to have your work appreciated by an outside source. Kudos to you guys!

Nick, thanks. I guess with Lincoln M. Davis we will probably concentrate on the US Civil War but you never know.
You have always put a lot of effort into your games and it shows. I am glad you are getting some props from the vets that were actually there. Good job.
