X CRAWL Qualifiers!!!!!!!

I will be running the second annual Charcon X-Crawl Tournament at Charcon this year (if the Charcon Gods of Gaming should approve, of course). This year, we will be doing things a bit differently to preserve my sanity. We will be running pre-qualifiers at the four Lost Legion Games and Comics locations in September. Teams will run a qualifying dungeon at this time. The top three teams will go on to compete in the finals to be held at Charcon. A lot of prep work on my part will be required to organize this, so I am starting early. Read on to learn more:

What is X-Crawl?

“In Xcrawl, the players are superstar athletes taking their chances in a live-on-pay-per-view death sport. It’s a modern-day world with a fantasy twist, and the game is simple: the Dungeon Judge, or DJ, creates an artificial dungeon under controlled – but lethal – conditions. He designs the maze, and stocks it with monsters, secret doors, magical traps, treasure and prizes. The players must go through the dungeon and fulfill whatever conditions the DJ puts forth in order to win.
Xcrawl is a sport and the challenges are created, but the danger is no less real. If you die, you die. There are no second chances. Citizens of the North American Empire tune in every week to watch their favorite celebrities get eaten, paralyzed, turned to stone, and ripped apart. The nation’s hunger for blood and mayhem grows with every contest. How will you fare? “

An X-crawl trophy and prizes will be awarded to the winning team on the final day of the con.


How to Participate in the X Crawl Tournament

1. Create a team.

A Team must consist of four players. No more, no less. Give your team a cool name. It can be whatever you want. Be clever, be creative. (Whoop Ass Inc., Orcland raiders, etc.) Players must be at least 13 years old to play. I will try my best to keep the adventure PG-13.

2. Create Characters

Characters are created using the Pathfinder core rule book rules. Characters will be 6th level. Each character starts with a ten in each stat and has 20 points to spend to raise these stats. You cannot use these points to take a stat over 18, but after you spend your points, racial bonuses can take them above 18. Any class and race that is available in the pathfinder core Players handbook is allowed. No classes or races from other sources and no prestige classes. Each team has 2,000 gp to buy equipment. Weapons, equipment, and armor that are in the player’s handbook are allowed. No magical items are allowed. No tangle bags, alchemist fire, etc. Master work is fine. NO FIRE ARMS. Please keep in mind that you will be in a dungeon and often close quarters, so you may want to reconsider that lance or man-catcher. No mounts. Familiars and animal compainions are allowed if part of your class features. Each player may purchase a potion of cure moderate wounds (one per character each) for 250 gp each out of the team starting money. Also the run time for both Dungeons (qualifier and finals at Charcon) is 2 hours in both real time and game time, so your character will not need things like flint and steel, sharpening stones, rations, sleeping bags, camping items, etc. There will be a couple of break/safe rooms that players may apply first aid, eat, etc. If your 5^th level character from last year survived, you may level him/her and use them this year. If you character died, sorry you have to make a new one.

3. Register

E-mail me the name of your team, the name of the players on the team (Your real names and the corresponding character’s names, races, and classes), note which player’s character is team captain and player ages. Please also let me know at which Lost Legion Games and Comics location you would like to run the qualifier dungeon and a preferred time. 4. Get confirmation

I will send you a return e-mail confirming your registration with an attachment for your team to review that includes X-Crawl special rules, scoring, and background on the alternate world that x-crawl occurs as well as your time slot for running the qualifying dungeon at your selected date and location listed above.

6. Come and run the qualifier at your agreed upon date, time, and location.

7. On October 1^st I will announce the top three teams on the Charcon Forums. I will then e-mail those teams their date and time for running the X Crawl Dungeon at Charcon. >>

Only one week left to register for the qualifyers. So far no one has registered!

I think the qualifiers being so far ahead of the con might have blown out those candles of interest. ... Well that and everyon is probably waiting to see if the Charcon staff team signs up... and plays...
(I can't commit to a team myself because between now and the Con I have no idea what weekends I'll be in your area yet.)

Yeah, that seems to be the case. But the qualifiers are in September, I really didn't think it would be too far out. Not sure really how to proceed. As for your team, I can be ready to run it for you at any time. Just give me a day or two notice. I guess that I will just be at the LLGC stores at the times listed and see if any teams show up. If no one does, I guess cancel it.

Pfft, waiting to see if the CharCon staff signs up indeed. We just figured no one else had signed up cause they was afeared of us and so far that seems to be holding true. Count us in fo sho.

It looks as if the Charleston shop would be the closet to you and it's on Saturday Sept 15th. I'll be there at 11:00 AM.
