    Default CharCon Board Games 08

The board game area was a great success this year.
    We had
    1. the Settlers of Catan North America Qualifying Tournament - A free tournament sponsored by Mayfair and Lost Legion Games & Comics. Congratulations to everyone that played in it and to Brent that was the big winner.
    2. the Premier Tournament - A $10 entry fee that got you a Rio Grande game worth more than $10 before you ever sat down at a table. We gave away a BUNCH of games and it was a blast. The list of winner will be posted later in the week (when we find it).
    3. Volunteer Game Masters - we had 5 gamers volunteer to run games that they liked and wanted to play. Great job.
    4. the Appalachian Gamer Library - A library of games to check out and play at your leisure. We had about 70 games available and usually had 2 people at the desk to teach. (My apologies to a couple of people that did not find anyone at the table a couple of times. We were close by and not everyone working was in a blue shirt but we should have been closer.)
    5. Open Gaming - play what you brought or bought. We will always try to a few table available for open gaming. We want to let you have your own fun.

I really had fun and I think almost everyone else did also. I posted a Geeklist on the BGG with a list of all the board games that I saw. I am sure there were others played so feel free to add any games you wish.

It was a lot of fun. I had two friends who came just to see and play different board games, and they had a blast. My friend Amanda did well both on Cash n' Guns and Ticket to Ride. We also got in an impromptu game of Pitch Car, which was a blast, and I brought Fishing for Terrorists, which we played over at the special guest booths with AJ Menden.

The game giveaways was great. I heard a lot of positive comments from people, both on the stuff they got for pre-reg and for the Premier Tournament. I managed to snag a copy of "Ghost Chase," which looks like a combination of Scooby-Doo and Fury of Dracula. Very cool.

Excellent year, and even with all the chaos going on, you guys did a great job of teaching games and finding things for people to play. Great job. All the CharCon staff and volunteers need a pat on the back.

    Or a beer.

Big props to the BG wranglers, organizers, and volunteers this year. I thought the BG area was booming. I had the chance to bring a couple of civilians in from work to clear up some misconceptions about gaming, and they had a really good time playing the handful of games we had time to get to. Everyone loves boardgames, just have to get folks used to the idea that there are games other than monopoly and sorry to be played!
